CUPCAKE SEEKS STUDMUFFIN
CUPCAKE SEEKS STUDMUFFIN is a an 8 x 6 digital print in a limited edition of 10, signed and dated. A cupcake is mounted on THE LINK FOR LONELY PEOPLE, a 1920s British monthly newspaper. Social media and dating apps in this century offer countless ways for people to meet other people, whether for love, lust or companionship. That was not the case in the 1920s. Particularly for LBG people. The Link boldly stated it looked beyond marital love. It ran ads by war widows and disabled soldiers. And there were coded ads from gay people seeking gay people. Like a Jazz Age Jerry Falwell or Franklin Graham, an editor named R.A. Bennett blew the whistle. His moralistic newspaper TRUTH sent a heavily notated copy of The Link to the police. Circled in pencil were words like (are you sitting down?) artistic, bohemian and unconventional. "The Link for Lonely People" was ultimately investigated for conspiracy to corrupt public morals. And that’s the Truth.
