CANNOT HEAR YOU DO NOT WANT TO

This is 7x5 digital work in multiples of ten each signed and on paper.
CAN'T HEAR YOU uses part of the old Japanese proverb "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil." It was a common adage by the 17th century and was represented by three monkeys carved on a Shinto Shrine in Nikko. As with a similar beliefs in Hinduism, Buddhism and early Chinese philosophy, it urges us to beware of unsavory behavior which might lead to evil thoughts and deeds. In Western cultural it has the sense of pretending ignorance by looking the other way. The undertone here, I fear, is I have no interest in what you are saying. The Edwardian lady is from a period British postcard. The design is available in various sizes on Artspan (peterjketchum.com) and on a bunch of stuff in our store on Redbubble. https://www.redbubble.com/people/ketchumart/shop.
