DUCHAMP HAS A CUTE ASS is an 8x6 (watermarked) signed print on heavy paper. It is a spoof of Duchamp’s spoof and phonetic pun of the Mona Lisa called “L.H.O.O.Q.”
The artist said that, loosely translated, the L.H.O.O.Q graffiti means ‘there is a fire below.” But in the vulgar French slang of the time it’s “Elle a chaude au cul” or “She is hot in the ass.” I changed the pronoun “elle/she” to “il/he.”So the translation is “HE has a hot ass.” Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose?
I substituted an adapted b&w photo of Duchamp for Mona. In his work, Duchamp gave Mona a Dali mustache. And beard. I only added Dali’s trademarked curled mustache.
Both D’s were Dadaists. Duchamp was most famous for his urinal sculpture “Fountain” which he signed “R.Mutt.” Dali did melting watches.
