I don’t know if they are sisters, but these two gentle women are dressed for a time out, perhaps at an amusement park. They pose in hats, leather gloves, and going-out dresses. Their ears are bejeweled, and they carry pocketbooks. Love and serenity is in their faces.
Like many of their friends in the South, Cleola and Ruperta”s names ended in A. Think Kesha, Cora, Rosa, Rhoda, Velma, Coretta, Kenya, Velma, Alberta, and Bertha. Historians find the names are circuitously rooted to Latin, Arabic, and African languages. The A trend spread North during the Great Migration.
