THE NUDE BANANA LADY
THE NUDE BANANA LADY is an 8x6 limited edition, signed print. It is an adaptation, with real banana added, of a 1920s French postcard of a nude lady sailing in a banana boat because why not. It says in French ”Qui a dit que nous n'avions plus de bananes?” which in English means "Who said, 'We have no bananas'?" It probably relates to the 1923 novelty song “Yes, we have no bananas.” In that song a grocer, because he hates to say no to a customer, says, “yes, we have no bananas.”
On the naughty postcard it probably meant something not necessarily a banana. Oh those French persons. Tres sale!
Speaking of rotten bananas, the ping pong tournament that is my brain thinks Banana republics are rotten because in part they are run on cronyism. Glad our guvment ain’t one. It’s more durian, or sour grapes.
Peals of laughter ensue as I split. #banana #bananarepublic #frenchpostcard #nude #femalenude #funnycard #1920s #roaringtwenties #peterjketchum #ketchumart #artspanprints.
