GIDEON K. FROM KALAMAZOO MICHIGAN
GIDEON K. FROM KALAMAZOO is an 8x6 signed print on heavy paper. I made it using a found early 1900s cabinet card from Kalamazoo, Michigan. I enlarged the cabinet card, cut it up and put in lace curtains. I put the card back together and mounted it on enlarged period wallpaper. I don’t know This stylish Black man in his derby hat but he has a strong, if somewhat melancholy, air about him. I don’t know his name, I so I named him Gideon, and picked the last name K. to be alliteratively in sync with Kalamazoo. Go to peterjketchum.com and read my essay about Lost Souls which tells how found photos and ephemera became a major part of my work. #African #kalamazoo #blackman #Afro-American #foundphoto #peterjketchum #blackportrait #blackculture #blackfashion #derbyhat #ketchumart
