JOY RIDE
You don’t have to be naked on a horse with the wind blowing in your long blond hair to feel free. My 8x6 work JOY RIDE symbolizes the idea of total abandonment. A JOY ride. Or as the Australian Newsboys sang, “I want my life to count, every breath. I wanna live with abandon.”
Joyride was coined by a judge in a 1908 case involving teens who stole a car just to race recklessly around town. That’s not the joyride I mean. Nor the sort of joyride where you’re chased by a vengeful and murderous Rusty Nail in a scary movie.
No, I mean the kind of joy ride that comes from a sense of being free. Let loose. Unfettered. A JOY ride. No rules. No reins. No judges. No societal fences.
Churchill said in our ambitions we don’t have to aspire to masterpieces. We can find contentment “with a joy ride in a paint box.”
Paint with a brush in each hand and another in your mouth. Sing at the top of your lungs. Bake a five-tiered cake with an unintended Tower of Pisa tilt. Be the last runner to cross the finish line. Paint, sing, bake, run for the joy of it. Just for the feel of the wind in your hair even if you are completely bald and in the doldrums.
Joy ride even if you don’t own a horse.
Available in a signed, limited edition of ten. For stuff like shirts and pillows see www.teepublic.com/ketchumart. But buy the Artspan print first! Thanks. And go ahead. Let your hair down.
