CLOWN WITH PUCKERED LIPS
ITALIAN CLOWN WITH PUCKERED LIPS is a 14x11 inch acrylic, mixed media work. This clown reflects the Commedia dell'arte tradition begun in the 16th century. A found photo was enlarged, cut out and glued to a painted background on a wood panel. The clown was colored with photo dyes and acrylics. The stock character portrayed here is most likely Pierrot (Pedrolino.) Traditionally he's a lovesick, sad clown . The part was played unmasked with a powdered face and, usually, a white costume. I preferred yellow so there it is.
