RED SOX FIELD OF DREAMS NOT
RED SOX FIELD OF DREAMS NOT is a 10x8 limited edition signed print available with many other prints and art on Artspan peterjketchum.com. Have a look.
Red Stockings cigars were first produced by Fred Burrell around 1870 in Cincinnati and later by Nichols & MacDonald in Boston. N & M was one of the first companies to use sports as an advertising tool. The cigars were originally associated with the Cincinnati Red Stockings and later with teams in Boston including the Boston Red Stockings who did not become the Boston Red Sox of today. Instead, the Boston Red Stockings moved to Atlanta and eventually were named the Atlanta Braves.
At the center of the ad card is the team captain, John F. Morrill. John Francis Morrill, born in 1855, was nicknamed "Honest John” and played from 1876 to 1890 for the Boston Red Caps/Beaneaters, the Washington Nationals, and the Boston Reds.
The label at the bottom is from the end panel of a Nichols and MacDonald ’s Red Stocking cigar box. The curvaceous leg most likely isn't that of a baseball player. The green, grassy background is a field of dreams somewhere out there in the universe.
