MISSING LIBERTY AND MUDDLED ASSES

MISSING LIBERTY is an 8x10 signed, limited edition print on heavy paper. Digitally created from a b&w photo of the disassembled face of the Statue of Liberty on the ground in 1885. It is thought the face was modeled after Charlotte Beysser Bartholdi, the sculptor's mother. One of the most recognizable faces in the world, here Liberty looks somewhat sad. Maybe because of the growing hostility towards immigrants. You know, those tired, poor and huddling masses yearning to breathe free. Maybe also because of the threat to our democracy and our own shrinking freedoms. Intellectual freedoms. Religious freedom. Freedom from persecution. Freedom from want. Etc. Liberty is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. She’s been that since 1886. Some want to slam the golden door shut. Perhaps that’s why Liberty looks not only sad, but stern. Easy to get treacly here, but really folks. Keep the lamp lit. For immigrants. For democracy. Don’t let the muddled asses win. My fine art is on Artspan peterjketchum.com. Not so fine (but amusing) art in my KetchumArt Store, teepublic.com/ketchumart.
