DOTTIE HIRST DOT ON DOT
DOTTIE HIRST OR DOT ON DOT is an 8x4 limited edition, signed print on heavy stock. On an imagined Hirstian background is an adapted found b&w photo which I enlarged and colored. I believe it was a photo booth pix probably taken when the unidentified working woman went to Coney with the girls from the block. She looks like the fun, mischievous one in the group. BTW, Tony Manero probably crashed the party.
With her boldly polka dotted dress, I named her Dot, though her friends call her Dottie. Her mother? Dorothy. Always called her Dorothy. I loved the earrings, toothy smile, and polka dots. Everyone knows a Dottie.
This work is part of my continuing wabi-sabi series which can be seen on peterjketchum.com. Wabi-sabi is an ancient Japanese aesthetic. It values the imperfect, the unknown, the handmade, the damaged, flawed, and the simple. Each work in the series is stamped with wabi-sabi inked in Japanese characters. #photo_booth #hirst #wabi_sabi #foundphoto #dots #polkadots #japanesesymbol #vintagephoto #1940swoman #workingwoman #polkadotdress#affordableprints
