CREATE DANGEROUSLY

My print CREATE DANGEROUSLY uses two words from a lecture Albert Camus gave in December 1957. To create today, he said, "is to create dangerously. The question for all those who cannot live without art and what it signifies is merely to find out how, among the police forces of so many ideologies (how many churches!), the strange liberty of creation is possible."
Camus was echoed over the years by W.H. Auden and Chinua Achebe. Auden wrote that the mere making of art is a political act. Achebe said those who say not to "put too much politics in your art" are not being honest. They are the same people who are quite happy with the situation as it is. They are saying, Don't upset the system.
Artists! Rise up. Damn the system! Create stuff. Live dangerously in these fretful times. Placed on a swirling background of acrylic paint are symbols and tools representing the arts. Lurking here and there are dangers. A black widow spider, some rats, a snake and a killer wasp. Be brave. Dare to create anyway. DO upset the system.
The design is available on my Artspan site (peterjketchum.com) in different print sizes, or on a wide variety of items in our Red Bubble shop. www.redbubble.com/people/KetchumArt/shop.
